Norwegian Forest Cat are large in size and long with robust constitution and solid bone structure. The head is triangular with three equal sides, with good height seen from the profile. The forehead is slightly rounded with a straight, uninterrupted profile and strong chin. The ears are large, wide at the base, pointed with little tufts similar to those of a lynx with long hairs that come out of them. The eyes are big, oval, very open and oblique and all colors are acceptible except the same color as the coat. They have an attentive expression. The legs are robust, high, with the back legs higher than the front. The paws are big and webbed which facilitates moving in snow. The paws are rounded and proportioned to the legs. The tail is long and furry. Turned backwards, it should reach at least as far as the scapulae but preferrably to the neck. The fur is medium to long. The wooly undercoat is covered by a glossy and water-repellant fur which is formed by long, thick, shiny hairs which cover the back and thighs. A cat with a full coat has a ruff around the neck, a complete mane and “culottes” (shorts) on the hind legs. All colors are permitted including all the varieties with white. Excluded colors are any point-type designs (Siamese) and the colors chocolate, lilac, cinnamon and fawn. Any quality of white is permitted.
